First AeroGarden Spicy Microgreens Trial

LOL...it does, kind of look like that. Or a tad like a dichondra lawn? Mikey's grandpa loved dichondra and boy did Mikey get in trouble if something happened to that lawn! It was ready to try on Friday, but we had a club meeting Friday night and I wanted to make sure there were no digestive issues, so we waited until Saturday to try it. Good stuff and we'll use more today. I do think my next microgreens garden will take advantage of the split trays to grow 2 different things. AG says you can grow bean sprouts but I don't see the seeds offered on their site, so I'll try seeds I got from True Leaf. We love mung bean sprouts on salads and in stir fries. They can be tricky to find at the grocery store since Kroger stores don't sell them. They say they are recalled too often. So I can't go to Fred Meyer or QFC...and I don't think Walmart carries them either...well, not as a fresh in produce anyway.

I don't plan to have this garden very long. I have a long camping trip coming up and I'll close this garden down (and my herb garden too...mostly) before that. That was my plan from the beginning. Well, actually, my plan was to have no gardens thru the summer, but trips got postponed and I couldn't wait to have some gardens going, so I thought I would try microgreen as they grow so quickly! Glad I did!I think AG wants you to plant just one tray and then 4 days later plant (add felt and seeds) the 2nd tray, so one can spread out the harvest time. That 4 teaspoons of seeds sure makes a lot of sprouts! I wouldn't worry about the water too much. Or, you could just R&R right before you plant that 2nd tray.For siphon, I have this one - it works well and is battery operated. However, when I over-filled the microgreens garden, I used my turkey baster to pull some out. Forgot all about the siphon...

Mine too have a slight odor, but no where near what DH had when he was growing wheat grass in a more traditional sprouts tray thingy. Non-AG. This isn't noticeable in the AG without being right on top of it, or doing the R&R.Fingers and paws crossed for you on the pepper pods!!! Have you check out the Seed Vendors Thread here? I found a few favorites thru those and other threads. It is fun to pick and plant from other sources too!

Yes it does! I believe it was Shawn that originally posted a recommendation for it. I'm glad it is working well for you. I love my Bounty machines for the ease of just picking it up for R&R, but with the siphon and a few other tricks, R&R for Farms is simplified too. Much of my personal learning experience is documented here.

Thanks! Many of the tomatoes that I had were still too small, like large peas, along with being green. Otherwise, I might have considered just picking them and bringing them along on the camping trip. Again, thanks for that reminder though!

It is the AG Spicy Microgreens Mix that came with the kit. It says: Daikon and Purple Radish, Green and Red Mustard, Arugula and Cabbage - I didn't want to do Wheatgrass and Mikey can't have broccoli, so that left the Spicy mix. So, yes, there's some Radish in there! I expect to try it in a couple of days, at this rate!

I haven't changed the water yet! I'm thinking I might harvest, at least some, tomorrow. I would have done so for lunch today, but want to make sure there are not any digestive issues today, as we have a club dinner meeting tonight (well, just sack sandwich meals). I agree that microgreens in the traditional grow method are a pain. So far, so good with the AG for me.Nope, the felt will be dissolved with a single use. Not reusable. I got some from True Leaf too...I would cut is just a tad smaller than the bowl, as it tends to expand more. At first, it didn't seem to work as well as the AG felt, now, it is hard to tell the difference. I think you'll be fine with the substitution!
