Those two varieties take longer, just give them some time
How do you know when they are ready to be picked?
I recommend going by the width of the radish.Black Spanish Round - 3-4" wideCrimson Giant - 1.5" wideHailstone White - 0.75"-1" widePurple Plum - 1.5" wideYou can always pick radishes early and they're still edible, but you don't want to let them go for too long or they'll start to get woody.
last night I ate one before bed and I think it put me in a coma it was so hot..didnt open my eyes til 9 am !!!!!! With the Giant Crimson, I can't eat them after 20 days.My preference and what I learned from my project. They lose their juicy crunchiness and mild heat . Today is day 19. My project is ending today.
I picked the Purple Plum as it looked like maybe it was ready. That was the one that grew long not round.Well I do not think it was ready. Mark said it was chewy and bitter but spicy.This will continue. My next one will be in a bounty for the better lights. They may grow faster that way too.
I am going to end this sometime this week. I want to clean the unit before the GAL.The Black Spanish and Hailstone are doing nothing but growing the leaves. Mark tried the Purple plum but it was still bitter. I will pull the Crimson T his week. They are on the small side. I do not know if it is because they are in the Sprout or maybe it is the temp in the house. I WILL try them again but in a large machine.I will get a picture tomrrow
How hot is your house? Radishes are a cool weather crop so they do best between 50F-70F, although you can add a small fan if your temperatures are higher than that.
Not hot. We have central AC. There is circulation in the room. We have an open floor plan so plenty of circulation. They may just not like me LOL or the wattage of the Harvest.
Do you know roughly how much nutrients you gave them? Maybe it was too much (so too much nitrogen), and they focused more on leaves?I grew a Purple Plum Radish in my Harvest Elite as part of this timelapse.

I pulled the three Crimsons. The larger of the three Mark said was very good. Not real spicy however. Maybe because of the size. The other two were pretty small.I will try again using a larger machine in the near future.

I think they should be fine? At least in my experience, once they start forming the bulb, the bulb doesn't get any taller/longer, so you're probably just going to get some large radishes

Now would be a good time! I don't have much advice on the amount, since I use the PPM method so I always add 2ml to start. Corinne might have a better idea.If it helps for a reference (since you can compare numbers to get a relative idea of nutrient strength):Radishes need 840-1540 PPM.Lettuce needs 560-840 PPM.Bell peppers need 1400-1750.Basil needs 700-1120.
Ha, I do not test water ph ppm or anything. I will start with 1ml and see and add more if needed,

Now would be a good time!Also, regarding your Black Spanish Round - if that one doesn't start looking better, you might want to remove and reseed it. I've seen that happen sometimes with radish seeds, but I have no idea what causes it.
Ok thinned the 4 down to one. There is another Black rounded about to come up thru the pod so I will wait and then take out the wirey one.
I am looking forward to the tastes of these different varieties. I had 2 wiry ones as well and I replanted them.
The second Black Spanish popped up and over the label last night. So this morning I took the wiry one and placed it into a sponge I cut down the middle. It is taking up residency in my Bounty with the peppers for now. Hopefully it will take and then I will have 7 instead of six. I wish I thought about this with the ones I thinned LOL.
No need to worry about it until it starts forming the bulb, which will be a while from now. The only thing you need to avoid is letting the bulb grow "into" the sides of the pod, aka letting the bulb be constrained by the size of the pod.

WOW, I just took a look at them and they have grown since this mornings picture. I know @cornne said that she saw growth before her eyes. Now I believe it (not that I doubted her).

Just wait til you have the bulb sitting on top..that is the time to watch it grow by the hour(well...not quite)! It is amazing.

If I look into each pod, two of the Crimsons have life starting to come out of the seed.
That is what gets me every time...the fast growth!
