Tatsoi in a Harvest Slim: Smaller Reservoir Comparison

Well, I didn't keep up the log, but I did learn from the grow.Tatsoi seems happier with a larger reservoir. This doesn't mean it didn't grow perfectly fine in the Harvest Slim, but my plants in this unit were smaller the whole way through the grow than one month old plants grown in an older Aerogarden unit with a 0.85 gallon reservoir. Reasonable harvests, but nothing like what I can get from the same seeds with a slightly larger reservoir.The two six-week-old plants I have downstairs in one of those larger older AG units are TWICE the size of the Harvest Slim plants at 4 months. They look WAY happy, like they are planning world domination! So I will probably stick to larger units to grow Tatsoi from here on out.This Harvest Slim Tatsoi garden was terminated about a week ago. The plants got juiced for an absolutely delicious green juice. Ingredients: 1 stalk of celery (not a single rib, the entire group of ribs that forms a stalk) 1/2 a lime with peel 2 Granny Smith apples 2 Tatsoi plants 5 or 6 "Black Magic" lacinato kale leaves from another AG unit a small knob of ginger root Very green, very beautiful, very delicious! Hubby had some and agreed. It wasn't super sweet, but had a pleasant savory taste.

2024-11-16: Day 42Rinse and refill. Growth has slowed, so I’m going to give more nutrition. Checking the EC after 14 days and it is at 0.5, yikes! No wonder growth slowed up! Roots were in the pump filter sponge a little, so I trimmed. It will be interesting to see how the plants do in the smaller Harvest reservoir. My old AG units had .85 gallons compared to .594 gallons for the Harvest units. But that's why I want to see what happens in a Harvest. 2024-10-21: Day 16Plants recovered from their droop. All going well, the right-hand plant is the first sprout, the left-hand plant is the pod I had to reseed. It'll catch up. I'm planning to put another garden on that side, so it'll get some extra light spillover then.
