Cilantro, Rosemary, Oregano, Thyme, and Piccolino Basil in a Spare-Room Harvest
Grow log by Shawn · Original thread
What you can learnA complete culinary-herb example covering pod relocation, spacing, repeated pruning, freezer preservation, and a deliberate shutdown for household needs.
Useful practices
- moving established pods between AeroGarden units
- regularly pruning cilantro
- thyme
- and oregano
- freezing large herb harvests
- relocating a valuable rosemary plant before ending the garden
Problems encountered
- crowding among herbs
- slow rosemary growth
- limited spare-room use because of the grow light
*The days were calculated automatically and approximately.
With Christmas coming and my mom staying in the spare room I had to end one of the two gardens in there so she will be able to sleep at night. With that said I decided to end the Harvest as I can not move my Mini Munches. This garden has ended. I moved the Rosemary to the Kitchen Bowl Harvest. I harvested all the Green Basil and Oregano and they are now in their containers in the freezer. I have updated the Kitchen Bowl Harvest thread.

I imagine your Thanksgiving cooking will use a lot of your thyme stash.
Yes it will. I use it in my stuffing and on and in the turkey. I used to make a Thyme butter also. I grow so much this time of year that what I have now should last me until I need to begin planting again next year.
Update #7
Cilantro has been removed and totally harvested. The runt of the two Oregano was also removed. This now holds a Thyme, Rosemary, Piccolino Greek Basil and Oregano. It was getting too crowded so now these have room to breath and grow.
I admire you gals and guys who cook and use the herbs. Basil is about it for me. I have a big rosemary plant that I can't kill(soil) and use it occaisionally for chicken..but it is mainly on the sun porch to repel spiders ...LOL they can't stand the smell and it works like a charm. Your herbs are great, Shawn.
Thank you!I did not know that about Rosemary, good to know. I hate spiders. As for the rest of the herbs, I only grow a handful of types as I only use a few kinds. But I love watching what others grow and it gives me inspiration for future projects.
I'm always looking for ways to add different and new herbs to my cooking. Fun fact: Spiders also hate Eucalyptus, so I tend to hang some dried in the house. Good to know about Rosemary since I was planning on growing some anyway.
