Useful practices
- planting an extra position as germination insurance

flowers are pretty. but that is so strange to see more flower head than leaves on geranium!!!

They must really like the LED. I can’t imagine seeing them able to do this outside. Or maybe they really like the hydro nutrient bath over soil.

My poor Nanos never really recovered so I am terminating this project HOWEVER I WILL replant again and maybe use for the planters on the deck.

Poor nanos ...I ordered a lot of these seeds to start for outside and share with my neighbor...I love them and I am URE they will do better for you outside, Shawn. Give them another chance.

I totally plan to try them again. I am going to start them in the AG and then transplant outside. OR I may just do a direct plant in the pots.

Surgery has prolonged the life. But seems to have stunted growth. However the flowers on them are blooming.

Pretty colors too. I wouldn't worry about stunted growth because they do grow taller.

EquipmentRemoved algae and wiped suspected mineral deposits with a peroxide-dampened cotton swab.
Ok I brought in the OR Team although only interns were available. We were all scrubbed up and did some surgery.The Algae is gone. I think after the biopsy comes back it will show calcification as our first inspection did not appear to be mold. Regardless, we took a more radical route and dampened a Q-tip with peroxide and carefully wiped the area clean. No damage done to any vital organs. Patients appear intact and in good condition.After inspection, the wounds were well covered. The Patients are resting well and will be monitored.So I am referring to my expert @cornne , how did I do? THere is NO green in the pic on the right, it was the lighting.

That was so cute! Good job! Even to my unschooled eye, it looks better. I need to remember to try this operation when I get that problem.

PruningRemoved many lower red leaves and several dead leaves.
@cornne , I had removed a lot of the lower and very red leaves. There were a few dead ones. I THINK it is doing better but not growing that fast. My mother also told me that she was using the fan when she was staying here so they could have had a draft although I thought the cover was in front. I have no clue, but here are some pics. If they do nothing in another two weeks I will terminate this one and start a new one in the Spring when I know there will be no fans, or people messing with it.

I see algae which is harmless) BUT I see white stuff which may be mold or calcification?Yet it seems it is budding and the newer leaves are greening up. How are you at intensive care? I think it may come around, but....( tongue in cheek as she shows her name tag)

So Looking at my Nanos this morning I see all three plants have a nice dark pink coloring to the leaves. The plants are all healthy looking and you can see the smallest one has buds (as does the plant in back of it but leaves are covering them). I know Corinne mentioned they looked wilted but they look and feel perfectly fine.I just do not know why the leaves are this color? I am not adding enough Nutes? Too Much? Maybe I should change the water? I am using 4ml nutes.@cornne , any ideas?

I have no clue. I have never had that happen with nanos. But if that did happen I would snip off the real sickly looking wilted leaves and see if new healthier leaves would grow...even if they are red.Also I would try adding a bit more nutrients.Perhaps the leaves are supposed to be red in the colors you planted? Some do have red leaves.Anyway, you probably have seen this site already, but I can't help beyond that.Questions:Are you putting any additives in other than AG nutrients that would throw off the balance?Are they in a cold draft near a window?I have no idea on a fix.homeguides.sfgate.com/geranium-leaves-turning-red-96380.html

@cornne , I am going to get some Miracle Gro crystals (do you happen to have the exact product or picture I can view) that you mentioned in your Nano garden and try that. I will ass 1/8 tsp to the harvest when I get it to try.

It's too early. That is a bloom booster for when the flowers are slowing down and you want the plant to start re-blooming.. These are still in the early stage.I would try a bit more AG.

My Nanos are looking nice, but in the second picture you can see that the leaves are a very bright color. I wonder if this is any indication of the color of the flower. It is very odd as I have never seen the leaves turn colors especially like this.

the leaves in that pod look a bit wilted like they were in a draft ...did you have them near a window ?

No. They are actually quite firm. They are just weird. Maybe I will place the front right one in the back left JUST in case

Please excuse the bad lighting and the dusty dirty deck. I need to do some AG housecleaning later. These are growing slower then I remember. Better pictures to come as they grow

I was contemplating what to plant outside and the start time indoors for next growing season(if this is too 'outdoors' please delete, Shawn).I looked at my AG project and it was started in July and full blooms began in Sept..about 8 weeks.So I am going to start indoor germinating in March.

This morning I re-planted my Nano Geranium Mix. I was looking into the sponges earlier and I can see that the seeds is expanding and on one opening some. So maybe all four will germinate.Also sometime next week this unit will be placed on my cleaned up desk area. Mark's room should be done this weekend and everything moved in there. Well three of the 4 pods have green leaves that are just cresting the labels. Pictures tomorrow. I guess I am glad I planted that 4th one because only 3 sprouted.

I am going to plant Nanos next year outside rather than the Mavericks. I prefer them now.
