  • replace failed seed pods
  • change reservoir water periodically
  • trim frequently to maintain access and remove dead growth
Problems encountered
  • some pods failed to germinate

Update #8

Actions taken

PruningTrimmed a browned section to improve access to the water opening.

April 25, 2023Overall the time is doing good, but the front right pod was turning a bit brown, so I trimmed a bunch of it off so it is easier to get to the water opening.

bigshot, what method do you use for removing thyme leaves?

I'm lazy! I just cut off whole stems. When I use them cooking, I either tie them up in a bundle with string, or I fish them out. I mostly use them to make soup stock, so it's easy to strain them out.I've been considering making an herb stock where I empty the freezer full of herbs into a small pot with some chicken stock and simmer everything down. Then I could make super concentrated herb infusion ice cubes that I can use in cooking. That's an idea I just made up. Maybe it actually is a cooking technique. I don't know. I haven't tried it yet, but I think it should work.

How old were your pods, bigshot? Even the ones that germinated seem to have been growing very slowly. I wish that the Harvests had stronger lights!

I ordered all but one just before I started the gardens. Basil almost always germinates. I have a little more problem with thyme and even more with rosemary. I gave them five weeks. AeroGarden is sending me replacements for them.

PlantingStarted a Harvest 360 with thyme and limited the unit to five pods.

October 11, 2012Started a Harvest 360 with thyme. I'm going to limit this one to five thyme pods. The one in the middle is a couple of years old, so it may not germinate.
