Mixed Herb Rotation with Basil, Parsley, and Seasoning Celery
Grow log by Sher · Original thread
What you can learnA useful herb-maintenance diary with failed seed, pod repurposing, pruning for shape and light, edible thinning, and seasoning-celery observation.
Useful practices
- replacing less-wanted dill and thyme positions with basil
- topping and cutting back basil for bushiness
- snacking on surplus seedlings and herbs
- drying a large basil cutting
Problems encountered
- chive seeds failed
- basil became long and leggy
- large basil shaded smaller plants
- seasoning celery remained very small
*The days were calculated automatically and approximately.
It looks good. Maybe a tad on the undisciplined side? LOL.
That's a understatement!
It looks good. My chives love their home in the AG. I am going to post some pics
I still need to plant some more. Am waiting to move some lettuce out.

How are you going to use it?
I am drying it on the hood of the Bounty. It will get used in a little of everything. I will probably start with a strawberry basil salad dressing.
That sounds yummy!
That sounds good!
I just remember that I have a silicone mat that fits perfectly on my Bounty's hood! I'm going to try that & put some basil up there too! I've got plenty in the freezer, for now.

The seasoning celery looks like it grows like thyme. If so I would leave it. Then again I never saw it before so I do not know.
Thanks, Shawn!

I'm not quite there yet, but then I have a cold!
Soon enough
Oh, dear! Hope you have a speedy recovery! You have some good smells to look forward to now!
Update #3
Yup, that is usually what happens
Update #2
Thank you!
Update #1
Nice to see new gardens starting.
I haven't hear of cutting celery before. Where do you get the seeds from?
Oh seconded on the cutting celery question, that sounds like a really interesting plant to try out!
