Early Purple Vienna Kohlrabi Grown Four Plants in an AeroGarden Harvest

Harvested this tonight! The bulbs were smaller than they looked, so I should have let it go a bit longer - but they tasted a bit like a turnip, albeit crunchier and with a more earthy flavor.The leaves taste similar to cabbage but have a tougher texture, especially the ones that turned purple (too much light?). I set them aside and I think I'll use them to make sauerkraut.Kohlrabi can grow quite large, and the longest you can wait is when the bulb is the size of a tennis ball - but most often, kohlrabi will be harvested when the bulb is about three inches wide. They had an interesting appearance and I would like to try growing them outdoors in the future, but I don't think I would find it worth growing in an AeroGarden versus something like turnips, which taste similar yet allow for more yield due to better horizontal space utilization.Lessons Learned: When growing kohlrabi, you don't want to cut off any healthy leaves, otherwise you'll affect the formation/shape of the bulb.

I disconnected the pump today - I will let it grow Kratky style for a bit and then harvest it once the water level drops.

For as much as I neglect this plant, it seems to be doing well. It is on top of a dresser and away from the rest of my plants, so I often forget about it.The PPM had dropped down to 20 (!), so I added 4ml of nutes.
