What you can learnUseful for showing that pepper fruit can be hidden inside dense foliage and that fruit set may be missed during quick inspections.

Actions:1 Pruning
Useful practices
  • inspecting inside dense foliage before concluding fruit set failed
  • lightly pruning a bushy pepper plant
  • monitoring pod size and colour before harvest
Problems encountered
  • two seedlings initially shared the planting position
  • dense bushy growth obscured developing fruit
  • fruit had not turned red by the final update

*The days were calculated automatically and approximately.

You have pruned so nicely, to get a shapely plant with lots of air circulation!

I should have taken a before picture!! Things have still been hectic around here, it was wild how much work I had in front of me on this plant!! I cut off a LOT, but I’m hoping that things have settled down enough that I can keep a better eye on everything now.

I always feel like I prune too much. But we prune alike

It absolutely should have peppers by now, and I was ready to be super frustrated with it. I've never messed around with supplemental nutrients outside of the AG stuff. But today I went and actually searched for peppers, instead of just very quickly cleaning up dropped leaves and moving on, and found some!! they're small, but there! Quite a few of them! So all is well in pepper world after all!

Well then! Sometimes the plants don't want us to know what they're up to, I think! The Mini Munch cucumber and Fairy Tale eggplants are certainly like that.

I see one flower, but shouldn't this plant be forming peppers by now? Are you giving it any supplements?

What is a roasting pepper? Thick-walled, perhaps?

M
maskedsonnet

I’ve never grown them before, but it is supposed to be a larger, thick-skinned pepper that’s well suited to roasting. It’s a sweet variety too!
