PruningRemoved three overcrowded or sick-looking petunia plants.
My petunias are winding down. I had to remove two plants due to their strangling each other from overcrowding and sick looking leaves. I removed another one a couple of days because it looked sick. I'm sure I have a nutrient deficiency. I've tried several things and it hasn't helped. So I'm not sure how long I will keep this project going. It has been a glorious spectacle!

EquipmentRelocated the oversized garden to a window so it would not outgrow the light.
These are getting so big I had to move them to a window so they wouldn't grow out of the light. They are taking over the room! I'm not sure bigger is better. I am considering replacing them with another flower project.

@zyphax, on the previous page of this thread Corinne posted a great video on pruning petunias. If you want to restrain the growth, you just prune to a lower set of leaves. You will be fine without another grow light unless you let them spill over and spread out as I am doing. I kept mine contained for a long time. I let them go to see how they would look when they cascade. I didn't expect them to get this big!

On that, I might keep them going a while. Did you notice I have one yellow flower? i thought it was just a variation of white until I saw your yellow bedroom petunias.

PruningCut the entire canopy down to roughly four-inch stubs.
The petunias had gotten so huge that they were taking over half of the table space where I normally keep 3 Harvests. Plus they were growing out of the lights. So I sheared the whole thing down to 4" stubs to get control over them. They are coming back strong now. I am going to try to keep them better contained this round so I have room for all 3 machines.

I am so new at this that I was trimming off the longer stems trying to keep them contained in the bowl. Oops!

If you do not like the cascading look, then shape to what you want. Here is a video to guide you which I find helpful, although I am a cascade lover. He starts to explain that at frame 1:50 of the video/ Hope it is useful, sher.

PruningPruned the overcrowded plants heavily.
I realized what was wrong with the petunias was that they were so crowded that they were choking each other out. So I did a major pruning last night. Look how much happier they look today!

You make me smile. I did an R&R today. The roots were a solid mass so I cut them apart and rearranged them with the taller ones in back. It is wonderful to be able to grow living bouquets indoors! I also bought some for outdoors. I need to get them repotted tomorrow. They are mixed colors and also contain red!

NutrientsAdded an extra millilitre of nutrients in response to chlorosis.
Although it doesn't show well in the picture, I am seeing yellow chlorosis in the new leaves. I gave the plants an extra ml of nutrients. I am thinking of mixing up a weak nutrient solution and also trying foliar feeding. Anyway, the flowers delight me!

EquipmentPushed the pods upward from below to release trapped petunia seedlings.
All of the petunias were trapped beneath the pod covers and couldn't get out. So I pushed the pods up from the bottom to free them. I lost a few leaves, but it looks like I will still have plenty of plants to select the best from.

I am planning to start them all in the Aerogarden. If they get too crowded. I will transplant a couple of them to soil and put them in my window. I want them ALL in my living room!

I am so jealous! I purchased a 9 pod of the Cascade and stuck the sponges in my Classic 6 Starter.. They grew white mold on top of EVERY pod and ..now this creeped me out, sher...I lifted the pods and each one was COVERED with a white beard of fuzz.The entire length of the pods had long white fuzz all over like a fiber. I am itching just thinking of it. It was the worst AG experience I have ever had. This happened only last week. Needless to say , that entire machine was soaped,bleached, boiled and everything else I could think of, and the area sanitized as if it had Covid 19. Now I have some Prolific Zinnias starting in it., but am keeping a close watch. But what I really wanted was a Cascading Petunia to grow a hanger outside. Sad.

Oh, Corinne! That gives me the creeps! I can't imagine looking into an Aerogarden and seeing that! It would have scared me, too! I hope your zinnias help make up for it. I have some zinnias in my seed starter, too. Our season is long enough that I should have plenty of time to enjoy them outdoors. Here's hoping you never get such a nasty surprise ever again!
