Keep us posted on your pea projects, please! I did find the Tom Thumb pea seeds on Amazon. Thanks for mentioning Amazon, because I was able to order the seeds without needing a minimum order at Thresh to get free shipping.
Woohoo for saving on shipping and incoming peas! I germinated mine via the paper towel method and got 100% of them sprouting, if that makes your planning easier. And I will definitely keep posting about peas! lol
Today I harvested the last of the peas and forgot to take a picture! There weren't very many, but my partner and I enjoyed them together. It's time to bring this pea adventure to an end. I'm happy that the Tom Thumbs grew so well and tasted good. Thank you little pea plants!

Thank you! I got these from Thresh Seeds (via Amazon), but I've seen them lots of other places too, like at Baker Creek and MIgardener. I hope they grow well for you!

When I am watching the pods, I find they will swell out and if you flick them with your finger you can hear the peas rattle inside.. Not time to pick yet unless you want baby peas which we do like. I try and wait until the pod is just hard and round no rattle. if you wait a couple more days after that, they are too big and starchy. Takes some time to figure out the right time to pick so you get them how you want.
So I checked my notes for when I planted these and found it was on 3/31. Which means these li'l guys aren't even 7 weeks old yet, and their maturity is listed at 50-55 days. I might have figured out why they tasted under-ripe last week lol Friday will be 50 days, and I'll try another pod then! On a related note, I really love the day counter on the models with an LCD screen and maybe I should stick to those going forward 😅
The day counter is one of the very best AG features. I also love the wireless models--even though the connections can be a headache at times--because I can check the day counts and plant food schedules through the app.Looking forward to hearing the results of your next taste test!
My partner and I tasted another couple pea pods and it seems like they're still not quite there yet. They do taste more like peas, though, so I'm hopeful it'll just take a few more days! I did have a bit of a scare with them a couple days back, when I accidentally gave them a double dose of nutrients. I noticed about an hour later when they were saggy & limp, so I did an impromptu R&R and they perked back up again. I don't know if that set them back, perhaps?
The pea plants are so well behaved in the Harvest Slim!
They really are! I think it helps that they can hold on to one another so they all end up growing straight. I have some others in a DWC setup and they are not nearly so well-behaved as these.
They are looking great. Keep us the good work on this.
Talk about healthy plants, areyoukittenme! I love your beautiful photos! Do the Tom Thumb peas taste like English peas? I love English peas, but don't care for the Sugar Snap peas that are replacing them in the markets. I've never tried growing peas in an AG, so will be following your project with interest!
Aww thank you! I like the pictures my phone takes. I actually don't know what they'll taste like, yet, since this is my first try growing them. But they're shelling peas like English peas are, so my guess is they should be similar! There's a dozen pods in various states of maturity between the five plants in that unit, and I can't wait for them to finish filling out so I can taste them. I'll certainly let you know how they taste!
Your title reminded me of a meme I made last year from a picture of my peas.. They do love to hold on!
