Simply Herbs with Basil, Thyme, and Oregano
Grow log by Shawn · Original thread
What you can learnA concise herb trial showing nutrient timing, harvest and freezing, and the decision to restart when plant form became undesirable.
Useful practices
- delaying nutrients until germination
- testing low nutrient doses
- freezing surplus basil
- harvesting and restarting when mature herbs become unmanageable
Problems encountered
- rapid thyme overgrowth
- low ground-cover oregano form
- space pressure from another plant project
*The days were calculated automatically and approximately.
I love the ground cover effect. But I know what you mean about simply not liking the way a project looks. That's wht I almost got rod of my GAL beans.
Update #4
This morning I removed the two basils and froze what I would not use today. These would get wasted or killed with the Reaper.I left the oregano and thyme. The oregano is still small enough and has time to grow. The thyme I will trim next week and let the reaper spend a few hours (yes the reaper is that slow) to pick off all the leaves and then I can freeze LOL.I will plant something new today. By the time I can tend to them they will be big enough and the reaper will be gone.
Update #3
Looking good! Tasty herbs!
Yay! I see the baby oregano!
Update #1
Actions taken
No algae for you! Nice herb selection.
I know I will have to move things around eventually. Also I want to get more Rosemary started but will do so in with my peppers since they take forever.
The two basils and the thyme have germinated and will soon reach the labels. Oregano takes longer.HOWEVER, I want to say I am almost totally convinced that the nutes are the cause of the algae and all that green on the pods and around the tank. I have not added any as of yet and there is NO green in sight. Nothing on the pods at all and usually something would show.I am giving it a few more days to see. Then I will add nutrients and see what happens.
Yes, algae can't grow without nutrients. But any kind of nutrients will cause algae to bloom. Not just AG.
I actually started a thread on this topic in the Nutes boarad.
I really need to start more cilantro and parsley. Once my visitor leaves next week I will start some in one of my other machines. Maybe some Rosemary too..
Added only 2ml of nutes as the plants are over the label but still small. Picture to come.
