Nice! Are you making something with the "trimmings" today?
No. This has an anise flavor so will use it in sauce.
Might go well with ginger in an Asian inspired soup or sauce...
20ml Nutes
I did not take pictures, Mark and I are beat, sore and tired from clearing snow this morning. However I did trim all the basil except the Windowbox. I froze alot of basil. I will be making some sauce this week.
Update #4
Wow! Those look big enough to be used as a "wrap"!
The different leaf textures on each basil plant are interesting. The Napoletano reminds me of lettuce basil. I bet it will be delicious.
waterphoenix, it is. I use the napoletano especially in my marinara sauce. It looks a lot like the lettuce basil but taste differently. campingcorgis, yes they are large enough... well some are.
I went to check the water levels in the bowl and the basil is exploding. This Napoletano leaves are HUGE.... I will get a picture tomorrow.
Update #3
Nutes given today. I need to get an updated pic
Update #2
I haven't heard of the varieties you're planting. Curious to see how they taste and turn out. Looks like you're giving them lots of space. I just started an AG basil garden last week also.. much smaller varietal - Emily basil.
Hello waterphoenix , I love growing basil as I use it alot. I have grown all except the new Renee's Sweet Green. The Napoletano has an anise flavor to it that goes well with my Marinara sauce. We have a great thread for Basil called Flavors or Basil. Not all basil is listed but there are for many that members have tried. I look forward to seeing yours grow and hearing what you think of each.
Great thread. I’ll update once my Emily basil comes up. I have grown Genovese, Thai, and lettuce basil in the past. The lettuce basil was my favorite in a grilled chicken sandwich with some gouda, pickles, and mustard, yum. The sweet green sounds intriguing, I have been thinking of growing a sweet basil
waterphoenix, the lettuce basil sounds like a must grow. I had not heard of it before.
I grew it in a pot on the patio over the summer and it did well there. It might be a bit large for a harvest model. The leaves were big, crunchy, and tasted mildly of basil.
waterphoenix, where did you buy the seeds?
I grew my lettuce basil in a harvest. Yes they are large leaves. The Napoleon Basil also have large leaves
Added Nutes (10ml)
I got them from park seed, here is the link Here's a pic of the plant on the patio, and of the leaves dressing up a humble chick-fil-a sandwich, with calypso cilantro.

All the basil have germinated. I will try to get pics at some point.
