Update #14

S By Sher

I am planning to terminate these today. Outdoors, moss roses spread out and are pretty. In the Aerogarden, the stems grow straight up and the flowers bury themselves in the lights. They just look weedy. Besides, I need that machine for other projects.

Did you mention where you got the seeds? I'm wondering why yours grew so different from the ones I grew. Mine were a Happy Hour Mix from Park Seed.

S
Sher

Mine were from Outside Pride, campingcorgis. My guess is that it was due to the Harvest's 20 watt light. The plants were stretching for their lives.

S
Shawn

Are these the same as portulaca? I grew those which looked the same and mine stayed at a nice height.

C
campingcorgis

That makes sense.

C
campingcorgis

Yep, Moss Rose is another name for Portulaca.

S
Shawn

Hmm, good to know. I grew mine in a harvest. I wonder if it is the vendor or variety that it is growing like that.

S
Sher

If you grew yours in a Harvest, it probably is the vendor, Shawn. I will toss that package of seeds.

S
Shawn

I can send you what I have here if you still want to grow them (or plant them outdoors)

S
Sher

No, but thank you. I am moving on to other projects now.

C
campingcorgis

I noticed today that AG now has a Moss Rose kit selection. 3, 6, 9 or 12 pods!

S
Sher

That is really interesting! They must be a better behaved strain than mine were.

S
Shawn

Are they watching what we grow here and finding seeds? LOL

C
campingcorgis

If they are smart!

It looks like I am getting only three colors -- bright yellow, light yellow and white. I was hoping for pinks and oranges. But I am happy with what I have.

Update #2

S By Sher

The moss rose seeds are so tiny that just sprinkling the seeds means there are way too many seedlings per pod. I will thin them when they are big enough.

I had planted flowers like that in the past. You never know until you try but you have a plan!

Update #1

I couldn't wait till the Flower GAL to start this project. My neutral apartment is screaming for splashes of color. So, behold! Bright multicolored moss roses to be!

If you want this to be your GAL, by all means move it there. A week is not that far off to begin

S
Sher

Thanks, Shawn, but I have some yellow petunia seeds for the GAL. I also have forget me not and honey alyssum seeds coming in the mail. I plan to do more than one GAL project in case one fails.
