*The days were calculated automatically and approximately.
I trimmed some old looking leaves off and this morning there are a lot of new buds forming. I am waiting for all these green peppers to change colors.
Big Jim has been put to rest today. The peppers were taking forever to change colors. I removed 22 long thick peppers from the plant. These have been sliced and are awaiting to be used in dinner tonight. As soon as my Jalapeno is done, that will be ended as well. I am ready to use this machine for a new pepper project. THis was a great project with great tasting peppers and did produce a lot for me!
Big Jim had a great run!
I would say it was well worth the time and effort.Another great one, Shawn. THUNDEROUS APPLAUSE!!
Thank you!
Terrific project!
Thanks Mike, I would say so.

Topped with water and gave 5ml Mooch.
I will grow these one day.
mike, would you like some seeds? PM me your mailing address and I can send you some.
I trimmed out a lot of old dark leaves a few days ago. This morning I took another look and it is filled with a ton of new buds, flowers and peppers.
No R&R today but gave Nutes and Mooch

R&R, Deep Pump Cleaning (see pics here), 9ml Nutes and 5ml Mooch.
Update #23
Beauties
Oh yes, they are!
Took off the first red pepper. Before I could photograph it someone, not me ate it Anyway, here is Mark's Assessment:
They're definitely pretty as they color up. It's shocking how fast peppers color once they get started. It's about 48-36 hours to fully color on the TS, once I see the first hint of coloring up.
5ml Mooch, next week R&R
Update #22
Update #21
Have you tried any of these yet,Shawn?
Have not tried them red as I am still waiting on that but we have tried them green. Here is Mark's assessment:These Big Jim's smell like a green bell pepper and are sweet. They are very crunchy, thin skinned, lots of flesh and moderate amount of seeds. There is a basic Green bell pepper taste profile. Heat wise, If a Jalapeno were scaled at a 10, these would rate a 4/5.I have some seeds if you would like Mike, Just PM me.
I am FINALLY seeing some color change in one of the peppers. I can not get a good picture of it yet.
Woo hoo!!!
Update #20

Looks great! I guess I should be trimming my jalapeño. It’s a wild looking thing.
Nutes and Mood added as well as top of the water which was LOW.
Update #19
Measured the longest pepper and it is not at 6" long.
Are they so mild that they can be eaten raw?
Yes they can be eaten raw. Here was Mark's assessment: These Big Jim's smell like a green bell pepper and sweet. They are very crunchy, thin skinned, lots of flesh and moderate amount of seeds. There is a basic Green bell pepper taste profile. Heat wise, If a Jalapeno were scaled at a 10, these would rate a 4/5.
Mr. Mooch was added this morning. I also pollinated two new flowers.
I've had these before. I'd say they on the same heat scale as a Hungarian. They even look a lot alike. But the Hungarian varies greatly on the heat scale. They can be almost as hot as a jalapeno. But they can be completely sweet with no heat, as well. Big Jim's are pretty consistent, heat wise. About half as hot as a jalapeno.
Update #18
Much envy here!
I had to cut two peppers off as they are getting what appeared to be Bottom Rot. I cut the bottoms off and will use the rest of the peppers later. All the others look to be ok.. From what I am reading it can be a calcium deficiency. I just did and R&R. Added half the nutes since I have to give them more on Sunday and added full Mooch. I will just give 2ml on Sunday. Hopefully this will work!
Mark and I tried Green Big Jim's. While I would not normally pick until red, these too had issues. Anyway... This is Mark's assessment These Big Jim's smell like a green bell pepper and sweet. They are very crunchy, thin skinned, lots of flesh and moderate amount of seeds. There is a basic Green bell pepper taste profile. Heatwise, If a Jalapeno were scaled at a 10, these would rate a 5. Heat is immediate but fades quickly.
It sounds like a pepper whose heat I can handle raw, undiluted in a recipe.
Mark said it is a keeper, IF the remaining peppers do not start to soften and brown at the tips. I am thinking it also may be when I pollinate, the rot spots kinda line up with nubs from the lower leaves I cut off. So I will be careful. I hope this is the case and not anything major.
The level of heat sounds about right for an Anaheim. I find them to be very versatile for cooking, and excellent for a not-really-that-hot green chili sauce. They are indeed pleasantly meaty, and I always like to throw a bunch in with my habaneros in my "I'm going to regret this later" chili.
Oh I had forgotten this is an Anaheim. I had over time become confused and thought it was a type of jalapeño. So I was surprised at the much lower heat. Got it now.
The largest pepper is standing strong at 5.5" long.
great project, shawn. They put me in mind of a large italian frying pepper..except..they are hot. I bet you have recipes all lined up for these beauties!
I can think of a few dishes, but I have to make sure Mark does not eat them raw first LOL. I am just waiting for them to turn red.
Nutes and Mooch Added
Update #17
That’s the good kind of mess, fairy dust!
Fabulous! I'll bet some get to 6 inches.
Update #16
will you ripen them to red?
Yes, that is my goal
Update #15
Very cool! They're looking great!
Big Jim is getting BIG. The 3" pepper is now 4". Getting more peppers and flowers. Nutes and Mooch added. In two weeks we will do a R & R.
Looking great Shawn.
Thanks mike. I learned from the King himself

Update #12
You planted Big Jim the same day I planted my GAL jalapeño, and Jim is further along. You’re the Prima Pepperina! I have tons of buds, but only 1 flower that just opened yesterday. Today I switched to Flora bloom formula so we’ll see what happens. Maybe it’ll catch up with Ole Jim!
Update #11
Actions taken
Very cool! It looks like it's happy!
Big Jim was planted a week after the GAL Pepper and it is not taller then the GAL plant. I do not think they will grow much more as I did not top them. Jim is starting to get more and more flowers and I have my first three peppers growing now. I did remove a few leaves mostly for air circulation and light filtration.
Update #10
They look good. Nice, flat and green leaves.
This thing is monstrous lol. Looking good.
Update #9
Big Jim is living up to his name!!!
Those are some great looking plants. Looking forward to seeing this grow more.
Lush
Looking great, Shawn.
Thanks! mike, I even forgot to top this one. In a way I am glad as the two plants are kinda the same size. I just hope I did not do it any injustice.
Update #8

They look great! Neither of them look leggy at all.
Update #7

Looks like a dense plant, so may not need topping. (But you pepper folks know more than me).
Big Jim got Nutes and Mooch today.
Update #6
I'd wait another week. But it is growing quickly. Looks good.
Thanks, I will do that. Plus we will see what Mr. Mooch does to it after adding it on Sunday.
Looks good!
3ml Mr. Mooch added
Update #5
Happy, healthy plant!
Bigger! Soon it’ll be ready to be topped! (If you plan on topping it, that is.)
mike? Have you grown this before? Did you top it? Since the height of this is 18 to 24 inches I think I may. It might keep it shorter.
No, I've never grown these. I had seeds for them, but I recently did a purge on older seeds, and that was one of them. This is a much longer pepper, up to a foot long. Because of the pepper weight, I'd definitely top them. Give the base time to grow sturdy. One other thing, I don't thing these will grow much longer than 7" on an AG. To me, that's a good thing. I don't think I've ever had a longer pepper on the AG than 8".
I saw that they grow up to 9" and thought in the AG and with topping they would not get that long.

Coming along nicely.
I have the same problem when people take pics of me!
This plant has been moved to a Bounty
I'm glad you're back, Mary. I've missed you.
I’ve missed you guys!!
Nutes Added
Update #3
I wait a while. Until they are big enough to get nippers in there and cut out the one you want gone. Don't wait too long, though.
Got it. I will keep a close eye on it!
Add Mooch yesterday Snippedout one of the three, two are left and watching.
Remember, you don't want to add Mooch too early. Wait a minimum of three weeks. I wait a month.
I am correcting this, wrong thread for this and the GAL one. I was having a bad day yesterday and did not pay attention. Thanks for making that comment! Now I can correct the posts.

That's just the seed casing. You can pull it off if it doesn't shed it on it's own. It probably will though.
Yes, I know I had to look however because that was the seed in the paper towel and I wanted to be sure I put it in upside up.
Update #1

Whoo Hoo! I've never had this variety. It will be fun to see it.
Excellent! When did you originally put the seed in the paper towel?
I think on the 25th.
